David Walters
PhD, CCCDavid brings over 25 years of experience working with a wide range of clients across many different service settings. He particularly enjoys supporting people who are navigating significant life transitions, career shifts, the end or beginning of a primary relationship, a move to a new place, or any moment when life is asking you to become someone new.
His clients find him to be kind, respectful and genuinely caring, with strong listening skills and a real ability to support their strengths, abilities and potential. David approaches therapy as a collaborative conversation between two people, not a prescription from an expert.
He validates and draws on each person's earned life knowledge and experience, trusting that clients already hold much of what they need to find their way forward.
"You are likely to feel comfortable with a counselling approach that embraces your unique individuality and encourages your efforts at growth and healing."
How David Works
Life Transitions
David has a particular affinity for working with people in the middle of significant change, career crossroads, relationship shifts, retirement, grief, geographical moves. He brings both experience and genuine presence to help clients find their footing and move forward.
Humanistic and Person-Centred
David meets clients where they are, without judgment or a fixed agenda. His approach is fundamentally humanistic, rooted in respect for each person's inherent capacity for growth. He encourages self-discovery rather than directing it.
Integrative and Eclectic
David draws on a broad range of frameworks, including CBT, narrative therapy, solution-focused approaches, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, psychodynamic work and art therapy, adapting to what each individual needs.
Validating Earned Experience
One of David's core beliefs is that each person arrives in therapy with a lifetime of knowledge and hard-won wisdom. He works by honouring that, helping clients identify and trust the options, skills and capabilities they already carry.
Areas of Focus
David works with adults across a wide range of concerns, including:
