Nicolette Sopcak
PhD(HEcol), MC, CCCNicolette brings an unusually rich background to her counselling practice. In addition to graduate training in counselling, she holds a PhD in Human Ecology and spent ten years as a researcher in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta, working on a project focused on chronic disease prevention and screening.
That dual foundation — psychological training alongside healthcare research — gives her a deep understanding of how trauma shows up in the body and nervous system, not just in our thoughts and emotions. She holds specialized training in EMDR and is a Certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP).
She works with individuals aged 16 and up, with a particular affinity for seniors and those whose own work involves caring for others, including health professionals.

How Nicolette Works
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge. Nicolette has specialized training in EMDR and uses it as a core tool for trauma and PTSD.
Somatic Experiencing (SEP)
As a Certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Nicolette works directly with the body's responses to stress and trauma. SE helps clients gently discharge the effects of traumatic stress held in the nervous system, supporting healing that goes beyond talk alone.
Attachment-Based Therapy
Our earliest relationships shape how we connect with others and understand ourselves. Nicolette draws on attachment theory to help clients explore the roots of their relational patterns and build more secure connections in their current lives.
Strengths-Based and Humanistic
Nicolette approaches every client with genuine respect for who they are and what they've lived through. She works to identify existing strengths, encourage self-discovery, and support each person in finding their own path forward.
